Right from the beginning, we decided to meet on the island of Lampedusa: a square on the sea – offered by the Mediterranean Sea, on which people arrive from north, west, south, and east.
It is not so much the “door to Europe", but rather a port of departure for our future meetings in the Mediterranean: STEAM-Med does not care so much for geography, as for the community.
The stay in Lampedusa enabled each of us to improve our knowledge of the island and of its role, both in its past and in the present. It is impossible to tell all about it in only a few lines.
