The IAU Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) is excited to announce the call for proposals for the Teacher Training Program (TTP) 2024 (download the poster in pdf). This offers the National Astronomy Education Coordinators (NAECs) an opportunity to seek financial support for organising impactful teacher training and development workshops in their respective countries or regions. This grant encourages an active collaboration among a NAEC team member, a local teacher, and, where feasible, an astronomer. This team will work together to create and conduct a teacher workshop tailored to their specific preferences, where teachers will be empowered with the astronomy knowledge and skills that they could use in their classrooms.
We invite and encourage anyone working in astronomy education together with their NAECs to submit proposals for financial support of up to 2000 Euros, to organise and run the teacher training and development workshop in 2024.
Collaboration with a NAEC team member is a prerequisite for submitting proposals, teachers and/or astronomers interested in leading a workshop are encouraged to connect with a NAEC in their country for potential collaboration.
The OAE currently has NAECs in approximately 120 countries worldwide. For TTPs proposed from India, the Associate NAECs will be treated on par with the NAECs.
In the previous year, OAE proudly supported 21 TTP workshops worldwide, and we aspire to support more high-impact initiatives in 2024. Special thanks to OAE Center Italy and OAE Center India for their dedicated funding support for primary school astronomy teacher training and TTPs in the Indian region, respectively.
Detailed information, including eligibility criteria and rules, can be found on our webpage. The application deadline is April 15th, 2024.
